Maybe where you are, but here it was "wow." I normally wouldn't even care, but it was so funny that the one word I could think up to some it up was used in a preview.

X-Files didn't really hit it's stride.
They ditched most of the mythology and went back to basics, with the exception of dwelling too long on them hooking up/breaking up.
With the nutty reveal about the mystery, it felt like a weaker episode from the early seasons.

Caught Taken and The Bank Job today.
Bank Job was cool, not sure if it'll translate so well to America.
Taken is brutal, apparently just to one-up the Bourne series. If you've got Bourne withdrawal, I highly recommend. Apart from the superflous Holly Valance bookends.

I think the idea was to make something independent from the mythology, because it has been so long since the series ended, in an effort to make it more attractive to new fans not familiar with all of the past. IMO, if someone was a fan of The X-Files, they still will be after this movie...but if you weren't, the movie did nothing to make you want to see anything before it. I am still holding out hope that there is more to come from Agents Mulder and Scully...but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Short of the Manitou curse returning, I think they've done all they can do.
