Steelers edge Cardinals 27-23 in Super Bowl thriller Sun Feb 1, 2009 10:34pm EST
TAMPA, Florida (Reuters) - The Pittsburgh Steelers pulled out a desperate touchdown drive in the final minutes to overhaul the Arizona Cardinals 27-23 and win Super Bowl LXIII on Sunday.
Arizona had scored 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to lead 23-20, before Pittsburgh marched 78 yards with receiver Santonio Holmes capping the drive with a sensational six-yard touchdown catch from Ben Roethlisberger with 35 seconds left.
Holmes was named MVP after the game.
The victory gave the Steelers a record sixth Super Bowl triumph, breaking their three-way tie with the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers.
The Cardinals, making their first Super Bowl appearance, rallied from a 20-7 deficit with a spirited fightback, surging into the lead with less than three minutes remaining on a 64-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kurt Warner to Larry Fitzgerald.
