Don't forget the horror of the 14th century. It got so bad they had to give it a cover name, because The Black Death just sounds more menacing.

Sorry 'gay' vampires only came into being with Anne Rice and all the talentless hacks that came afterwords I'm not usually one for book burning but damn for the sake of a genre... leave Ann Rice alone How about...no Anne Rice's Castle Vania: Simon Belomont serenades the gate keeper till he opens the gate to Dracula's castle. Belmont hugs his way past the endless hordes of zombies. Revealing that he is a trained vet, Belmont makes certain all the rabid bats get their vaccinations. Belmont continues on his questand frees all the fishmen from those horrid plastic bags and six pack holders before convincing Igor and Franky that really they are beautiful on the inside and thus no longer have to kill people. Belmont spares the Grim Reaper after have a long a tedious talk about how death is a natural part of life and that really his actions are indeed a beautiful thing. Belmont finally confronts Dracula and the two sit down with a pot of herbal tea, talking to the small hours of the morning about all the loves they have lost. Then in a tragic twist dawn breaks and Dracula slowly dies in Belmont's arms, lamenting about all the evil he has wrought. Belmont has just enough time to forgive Dracula before he fades away forever. Need I say more?
