Hetfield Hospitalized, Metallica Nixes Gig By Gina Serpe Mon Mar 9, 9:38 AM PDT
Metallica had a less than Swede reception over the weekend.
The hard rockers were forced to cancel the second of two planned Stockholm gigs last night after frontman James Hetfield was admitted to a Swedish hospital.
Hetfield's illness, which the band's spokeswoman blamed on dehydration resulting from a stomach bug, took hold right before the start of the concert, and the rest of the band took to the stage only to inform the roughly 16,000 fans that the show was nixed.
"As you can see, one of us is missing tonight," drummer Lars Ulrich said, adding that they were "truly, truly, truly sorry" for the last-minute cancellation. "Trust me, none of you guys wanna hear me, Rob [Trujillo] or Kirk [Hammett] sing."
The group backed up the announcement with a posting on their official website Sunday.
"Tonight's second show in Stockholm has been cancelled due to James falling ill and receiving medical attention at the hospital," the message read. "The show WILL be rescheduled sometime this spring...We apologize to all our fans who have traveled from near and far and we look forward to coming back soon."
Hetfield was released from the hospital later last night and has since returned to the U.S.

Well at least he seems to be better.
James has always been one of my favorite musicians (although he isn't the best singer in the world, but he's okay)

Yeah, but at least they aren't like Axl Rose and show up to their own shows hours late.
Or walk put right in the middle of a song and leave. lol

apparently, he had food poisoning, as I heard on the radio today, and he's still apologizing for having to cancel the show. Pretty good of him.

Oh lol, it's hard to tell over the internet
I think James Hetfield from the first five albums sounded good (Especially in Fade To Black, Master Of Puppets, Sanitarium, Nothing Else Matters, The Unforgiven, One.)
He just isn't consistent enough IMO

Consistency. As in he sometimes can sing good and he sometimes sings badly.
Like off of "Mama Said" (A song I don't like) he does a good singing job, but on St.Anger his singing ruins the song "Invisible Kid"
Or off the same CD Ride the Lightning, on Fade to Black he sounds good, but on the song Ride the Lightning he sounds like Gilbert Gottfried when he attempts to yell.

I like Invisible Kid. And his singing in Ride the Lightning. But, whatever. The thing about him singing bad sometimes (which I don't really think he does) and good sometimes is that you can either sing, or you can't. And he's showed he can sing very well, maybe you don't like how he sings in certain songs, that doesn't mean it cancels out the good singing he's done.

I've never thought he was all that of a great singer.
I've always thought he was okay in rock. He has a great Metal voice though.
