The most "boring" (screw you guys) sport in the world is about to start and i love it! Now to naturally hype this up I will make predictions about the entire season (and be completely wrong about them with my luck). That being said let's get to it!
AL Division Winners:
West : Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
The Angels have held the top spot for a few seasons now and while the loss of Mark Teixara could hurt them; they were still in first place when they traded for him last year. They have 3 injuries to their top starters (Lackey, Escobar, Santana) but they have never been short on talent in the P department. I expect the A's to scare people but ultimately to fall short.
Central : Chicago White Sox
This is probably the most difficult division to pick a winner. As much as I would like to pick the Twins (not enough strength in their lineup behind Mauer and Morneau) or the Indians (Wood as closer? Lee coming back down to earth) I have to stick with last years winner. Ozzie Guillen is one of the most truthful and most honest managers and he knows how to get his players up and going.
East : Boston Red Sox
It pains me to type it but they were plauged with injuries last years that held them back. They still got to Game 7 of the ALCS and with a Beckett at full strength they remain a force to be reckoned with.
Wild Card : Tampa Bay Rays
I still have faith in the team that went to the World Series. The New York Yankees have put out some dough to get studs in Sabathia and Teixara but i don't see them overturning a hungry Rays team that just got their first winning season.
The National League
West : Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers have gotten their savior back in Manny Ramirez. They are not short on young talent (Ethier, Loney) and still have plenty of blue chippers (Furcal, Hudson) and the Dodgers always have a few arms handy. Even though my team is the Arizona Diamondbacks they don't have much in pitching after Webb and Harden.
Central : Chicago Cubs
The Cubs are the clear runaway. The only thing that kept the Brewers in the race was CC Sabathis and he has gone the way of New York. Their really isn't another challenger as the Cardinals would be too much of a reach here.
East : Philadelphia Phillies
The Champ is Here! The Phillies have lost Burrell but they still keep their core of Utley, Rollins, Howard, and Hamels. They are the favorites here and the Mets are nothing but a name.
Wild Card : St. Louis Cardinals
They may be a reach to win their division but they fit perfectly here in the wild card. Albert Pujols is a monster. They get back Chris Carpenter who they missed out on for the entire year, last season. The New york mets will find another way to choke away the season and I wonder what new way they will come up with this season.
World Series : Boston Red Sox v. Los Angeles Dodgers
The winner being the Dodgers! This was the aformentioned world series last year that never was but this year it is much more probable. If the two meet Manny Ramirez will never allow his team to lose to the Red Sox.
MVP AL : Matt Holiday
Cy Young AL : Roy Halladay
MVP NL : Manny Ramirez
Cy Young NL: Cole Hamels
