Who do you think best represented the Joker? Cesar Romero in the 60s Batman TV Show, Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton's Batman, Mark Hamill in Batman: The Animated Series, or Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight?

Actually, I think they are the best in the reverse order:Ledger, Hamil, Nicholson, and then Romero.

Yeah, I noticed that as time went on, the Jokers got less campy/ goofy and more dark/ morbid. Cesar Romero's Joker was just a goofball, but Heath Ledger excellently showed how twisted the Joker's character really is.

yeah, that's why I picked that order. Hamil's was great because he was evil yet funny, but just the shear evil that Leger's was made him amazing. You just had to laugh at the way he presented himself too. always acting like he was looking for the right words, and the evil laugh at random times.

I have to admit I was skeptical at first when I heard Ledger was going to play the Joker. I thought, "Wait, the guy from Brokeback Mountain? Huh? Why him?"
But, he pulled it off.

Ledger/Nicholson, Hamill (A close second), and Romero. Hamill was awesome as the joker.

Easily Mark Hamill ... for his laugh and for the scene between himself and Batman in "The Return of the Joker" when he explains what he has done to Robin ....
"What's the matter Batman? No witty comeback? No threat? Then I'll provide the narration? I'll begin with how i affected young Robin's makeover. Oh he bravely tried to fight it at first. You would have been proud to see him so strong. But all too soon the dear lad to share such secrets with me ... secrets that are mine alone to know ...Bruce.
It's true Batsy, I know everything. And kinda like the kid who peeks at his Christmas present I must admit its sadly anti-climactic. Behind all the stern and Batarangs you're just a little boy in a play-suit drying for mommy and daddy! It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic ... Oh Hell I'll laugh anyway ... HAHAHAHAHAHA!"

I haven't seen the newest one and won't be until it's released on dvd, most likely. So, I'll go Hamill, Nicholson and then Romero. I would like to add that I did find Romero's Joker fun and in no way is him being last because I disliked it. The television series was so ridiculously funny.
