Tanswell, Canada Day is basically a celabration of Canada's birthday, when a number of provinces joined together to form the beginnings of our country and begin to assert independence from British rule. Kind of like America's 4th of July.
Does Australia have anything similar?
on a side note, where I am originally from is Newfoundland, where the capital city is St. John's. The civic holiday for St. John's is Regatta Day, where boat races are held at a lake near the downtown area of the city. This is a longtime tradition, with the lakeside area heavily populated on that day by games of chance, food concessions, beer tents, musical acts and more. Basically, the entire city shuts down for this day.
But, herein ,lies the best part - because the day is centered on the races, if the weather is not agreeable, they cannot hold the races. So, they will cancel the day, and hold it on the next day, weather permitting. An absolutely genious way to ensure that it is a nice day for the holiday!!

It isn't. Dust and Draven like to inflate each other's egos. it was nice, until you made this statement. Then it ceased to be nice. The decisions made by your government are what cast a negative light on America...if all Americans, including the ones in power, were sensible like Christine and (can't believe i am about to say this) yourself, then America, and thus the world, would be a whole lot better off.

Truth hurts, I'm sorry I had to enlighten you. I'm a highly sensible person! What is wrong with wanting to bomb a whole country just because someone, from a completely different country then the one you want to attack, stepped on your nikes? I just bashed Bush on accident, lol!

More people need to bash Bush...too bad not enough people did 4yrs ago, or even better, 8 yrs ago. Canada may be not as powerful as America, but Canadians are respected the world over...Americans unfortunately are not. That's sad...I'm sure if you and I ever met, after i beat you up(lol), then we would get along great. However, lots of nice people like yourself are painted in an unflattering light by the bad politics of Bush.

Oh, I hate the man, but bashing him wasn't my intention, contradicting myself was, just so happens it fit perfectly well wih how he acted with 9/11.
To fix something you said, I would put a stomping on you, then we would get along. Then we'd go steal Christine's gummy bears and shave her head. If time permitted, we'd steal one contact lens.

Can we shave a half inch off the heel of one of her shoes as well? preferably the side opposite the missing contact lens... p.s.we are gonna catch some major shit if she reads this...but ah, fuckity!!!

That is a real asshole thing to do. No matter what decisions my countries leaders make or don't make that I do or don't agree with, does not change that fact that I am proud to be an American, and like most American's will celebrate that fact this weekend. I think you owe us an apology for that one.

My sincere apologies....maybe i didn't word my thoughts clearly. In my experience, most Americans that i have dealt with are great people. America is a proud country, and Americans are right to be proud and should certainly celebrate that this weekend coming, and at all times. The unfortunate thing is that most Americans don't have the same voice and exposure to the rest of the world that your most prominent spokesperson, George W. Bush, has. That will change in a few months time, and my hope is that whoever takes over the White House can erase some of the negative images created. America has done a lot of good...unfortunately, reality is that one rash act makes more impact than ten good ones.
Anyway, i wasn't the first to make a negative comment, but apparently mine were taken to heart the most. They will be deleted as soon as this post is made.

Thank you Draven. Actually, your comment struck me, because it seemed so unlike you to bash another country, and it didn't seem to be jokingly. To be honest, I was skimming the thread when I saw your comment, and thats the one I commented on. I Opened the thread because I wanted to comment that it was a nice thing of bbsy to do, and he doesn't do many. lol. Nothing needs to be deleted. Opinion is opinion, you all gave yours, and I replied with mine.

Sad thing is that because America is the most visible country in the world, it stands out so much. Canada's leadership isn't always the greatest, but who cares...it's only Canada.

I'm guessing half this thread got deleted?
Anyway, we do have Australia Day. It should be January 1, when the states Federated to form a country. Instead, we get January 26, in 'celebration' of the English showing up and butchering the Aborigines.
Thanksgiving without the food, I guess.
