Im going to go out on a limb and guess that the majority on this board aren't particularly big fans of the hip-hop genre. So, let me her your grievances... why do you hate a music genre that I love so much, because of a few bad (rottenly bad) apples??
So I pose a simple question, who are the rappers you hate and please... feel free to take cheap shots.

Because it required no talent.
Don't give me that line about Rap taking talent.
Those "beats" you hear are so simple that some people can do them with their fucking mouth, you could just download a music maker of the internet and make beats with it. So called "professionals" just try to overproduce the simple ass beats.
The lyrics you hear nowadays are so unintelligent, crude, and flatout juvenile that it definitely proves that no talent is necessary. All they do is spout Nigga, Weed, Blunt, Bling, Cars, hoes over and over.
Even the rappers who talk about life stories such as Eminem, Tupac, Nas etc still are just simply talking over some lame beat with pounding in the background that sounds like pots and pans.

Good hip hop is very much lyrically driven. To even suggest that writing lyrics (let alone ones that are praise worthy) isnt a difficult process is a dumb statement to make. This isnt to say you are dumb (although-- ah nevermind) but it clearly shows you've never sat down and attempted to write lyrics to a song.
Being a genre that is heavily lyrically driven, beats tend to be secondary with skilled writers. Bad rappers, like Lil Wayne, rely heavily on beats to make up for the fact that he's speaking garbage.
The best rappers tend to be those that have been through trials (meaning bad events) because they can make comments on things they have been through and those who dont tend to be the ones talking more about "bling, cars, and hoes". Although... the one to truly master this was Biggie. He was a hardcore rapper and at the suggestion of Tupac, made radio friendly ("songs that the girls are going to like") songs that sold and made him popular. People stole this from him when he died (hell even when he was alive) and turned it into much of the crap around now a days. The unfortunate thing is people take sides (rock or rap or whatever) when there are greats in each genre that many people should listen to.
Admittedly, there are not 100's of great rappers, but there are a few (unfortunately not many still alive) and if you understand the culture, instead of just saying that they speak moronically, you'd understand why people love hip-hop. (never forget there are always people who follow things that they dont understand... these people tend to bring out the worst in what they dont understand).

I think a good 95% of todays rappers are pretty poor, and I honestly think some of the best rappers at the minute are from England. (Well OK, maybe just Dizzy Rascal).
A lot of the really talented rappers like De La Soul etc. were pushed out when 'Gangsta Rap' became mainstream. And as good as that was, there was only a few that was good at it. And most of those guys are now dead or retired.
The reason I'm not big into 'today's rap' is that Todays rap is just glorified pop songs. Rappers of today are just yesterdays backstreet boys to me.

to me, with a few exceptions, good rap was dead by 2000. now a days you just have a bunch of ugly mother fuckers talking about all the women they have, all the money they have and how they will kick your ass, when they got those women because of the money which they lucked into because they were the friend of a friend or someone's garbage man and someone like dr. Dre decided he wanted to make more money off of them. and oh yeah, give me 20 big guys to watch my back and I can kick everyone's ass too

I know some rappers are more based on lyrics, Tupac being ans example of this. As I said before though, not matter how good the lyrics can be it's still just them talking over some lame music playing because mosr rappers can't sing worth a shit.

Fake: that is a bit different than what Im use to, but Ill get some more of his stuff get back to you with a solid opinion. Good hip hop is very much lyrically driven. As I said before though, not matter how good the lyrics can be it's still just them talking over some lame music playing because mosr rappers can't sing worth a shit. Ah... I lived in New York City most of my life (Harlem and the Bronx mostly) and I just feel a connection to what many have to say. Hip hop, wrestling, comic books, these are things from childhood that made things better. Comparing rappers of today (aside from jay z or eminem or immortal technique and a few others) to rappers of the past, or more specifically ones I like, is like comparing Metallica to blink 182... well actually they both suck. It would be like comparing Zeppelin to angels and airwaves. Just because there are rappers in the hip hop genre (wayne, soulja boy, and the list goes on), does not mean they are accepted in the culture or thought of as good by people who know it well. I can leave you with this, the best example of good rapper talking about, in some sense, what we are talking about (the latter being one of the best rap songs Ive ever heard, again, because of the lyrics.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=12wvV39aFc4 (lyrics on the side of the video) www.youtube.com/watch?v=ot9LhcVWF2s (lyrics on the side) Im not sure if I actually expect you to listen... but if you do Id love to hear your opinion.
