Just wondering what everyone thinks of this genre that has emerged in the recent console generations of your lone warrior leading an army of clones vs another army of clones with the odd guy with a funny hat sub boss thrown in.
I have Ninety Nine Nights, Samurai Warriors 2, Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2. While all three a decent enough games I can't help but feel the genre has already passed the point of EA sports of annual updates. The novelty of having huge armies of clone AI bots attacking another army of clone AI bots is cool the first time round. Also I would assume that every installment of the game will be someone's first game they have played in the series but at some point enough is enough.
Again much like EA sports or any given racing game franchise, once you have one you pretty much have them all.

The star wars battle front games are like that. I like those, but can't see myself playing others like that.

The star wars battle front games are like that. I like those, but can't see myself playing others like that. Most games of this genre now take a hammering from IGN and the like. Not that IGN has any credibility anymore but I think they should also be reviewed from the POV of it being someone's first time playing a game from the franchise. I really enjoyed Burnout Revenge, played the previous Burnout game which was supposed to be better, I certainly didn't think so. So it really comes down to which one you play first as you only really need one from the franchise as something is only innovative once.

Well, I like killing everything around me, team mates just get in the way, lol!
In Battle Front 2 whenever I make others follow me I end up killing them on accident, lol!

I don't mind the dynasty warriors shite, but more improvements per 'update' would be appreciated.
I mean seriously, the last one was a massive massive step-down in-fact. The one good thing about that game was Zhou Tai (Cool Samurai type guy. In the newest one they took away his samurai sword and gave him some crappy cleaver type thing and removed him as useable character for the story mode)
In fact, they removed MOST of the warriors from useable story mode. And the gameplay is pretty much always the same. hack-slash-hack-slash.
To be honest, they're not that good, and I always promise I'm not gonna buy the update. But I'm a stupid dickhead and do just that, and then bitch at the closest person to me about how rubbish it is.

Going by the EA sports rule you have to wait 3 years before they try to update anything

Dynasty warriors updates do seem to be yearly, but you're right. The only yearly EA updates I can think of is FIFA, but that's standard for most football games.
I am eagerly anticipating the new fight night game though. The graphics look sheerly immense.

Also, EA's main problem is identifying a problem and throwing money at it without actually thinking of a problem to resolve it. Makes for many a shoddy half-assed game.

Reminds me of an old topic and I wish I could remember who said it but...
"Ridge Racer 6 is not the 6th Ridge Racer game it's the 6th release of Ridge Racer 1!"
Alas as long as people will happily but annual updates just based on the fact that one of them so many years ago was good.
I for one would not miss EA sports

Hear about the new Dynasty Warriors?
They have replaced the samurais with robots for the next game cant remember where I read that but the only change from the last game to the next is supposedly the fact the characters are all robots now instead.

Think that's the Gundam Wing version. Didnt know there was different versions. I played the first 2 on PS2 and they both got boring havent played one since. Just read somewhere that they where making there first ever real change and that was making the characters all robots. didnt know about the other version though.

Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 is my first Dynasty Warriors game and its not too bad just depends how many of the games you have played previously.
As for the big robots factor its a heck of a lot better than the Transformers game.
