Pacman Jones got people to say his name
By MJD
Perhaps inspired by seeing what happens when people don't say your name for a while, Pacman Jones was able to get his name on peoples' tongues this weekend.
On Saturday, Calvin Williams of the FanHouse reported that the New York Jets had interest in Pacman. The source was "someone close to Jones" (so I'd say there's about a 60 percent chance that the source was wearing clear heels and body glitter), and Pacman's agent also noted that he hoped to have Pacman signed with a team by the start of training camp.
Less than 24 hours later, the Jets had shot that down. From Bob Glauber at newsday.com:
An NFL Fanhouse report on Saturday said that "someone close to [Pacman] Jones" stated that the Jets have expressed interest in the troubled cornerback.
But a source familiar with the Jets' thinking told Glauber that that is not the case.
"No interest," the source said.
Even if the Jets have no interest in Pacman, though, I'm still scoring this one as a win for Pacman. It had been a while since anyone mentioned his name, and now, they have. That's important. Especially since we're talking about Pacman, and in the past, he's found so many other unsavory ways to get his name in the press.
If I had to bet one way or the other, I'd say that Pacman plays somewhere before 2009 is over. Eventually, injuries will watch up with someone, they'll need a fill-in, and they'll be desperate enough to embrace Pac.
