Well, this one certainly takes some guts. A 17 year old at Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor, WA, was giving a presentation during a monthly class called "Rhetoric Revels." His topic? Legalizing marijuana. At the end of the presentation, in order to make a point, he pulled out a joint and smoked it in front of the class! He ate what remained of the joint (getting rid of the evidence?) and was immediately sent to the principal's office. From there it was off to juvenile hall.
According to the Tacoma News Tribune, some of his classmates supported his actions, but school officials certainly didn't. "We believe in freedom of speech and encourage it, but illegal activities are absolutely not going to be tolerated in our district,” schools Superintendent Terry Bouck told the Tribune.
About 120 students were in attendance when the pro-pot presentation was given. All the students were in 11th grade. No one was expecting the final flourish from the boy, who has a 3.7 GPA, but many other students thought the presentation was well presented and may have changed some minds in the audience.
When this inevitably gets picked up by national media, it will be interesting to see the reaction. If nothing else, he gets an A for creativity!
