In popular music that is...forget about opera/musical theatre/whatever, because then it'd get complicated.
I'd say Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys and Matt Bellamy.
Christina Aguilera and Beyonce might be up there too, but I don't like them much, and Beyonce's not as good as people make her out to be.

Matt Bellamy and Jesse Lacey. Jesse Lacey doesn't have a massive vocal range like Bellamy does but I think his voice is cool and he's my personal favourite lyricist of all time.

Charlie Simpson and Mr. Hudson are my two favourite vocalists from this generation so I'd say they're the best ;D
