ccording to Variety, Sony has reportedly signed screenwriter James Vanderbilt to pen the fifth and sixth installment of the Marvel Comics' Spider-Man film franchise. Vanderbilt had been attached to and had written a draft for Spider-Man 4, which enters production early next year for a May 6, 2011 relase, but since then that script has been re-written by David Lindsay-Abaire and is now currently under the pen of Gary Ross. Variety also reports that executives at Columbia Pictures and Marvel Comics have embraced Vanderbilt's creative vision for the upcoming Spider-Man films, even if the series' director Sam Raimi has not. Vanderbilt's upcoming two films apparently have an interconnected storyline, which, if Raimi and film stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst decline to participate beyond Spider-Man 4, could potentially serve as a reboot to the franchise. They need to stop and start again before they fuck up more characters like they did with Venom.

No, what they need to do is just say SM3 never happened, it was just Parker's nightmare or something and for shadowing the real Venom.

I think he'd make a good replacement. He looks sort of like Tobey, and he's a good actor.
