Well its finally happened local store has reduced the shelf space for the PS2 by about half (still has more space than the PS3) and it has lost its shelf bar the stupidly over priced 'rare' titles at the nearest Game Traders.
So is do you think THIS year is the PS2's final year or shall it live long enough to see out the decade

Still amazing how the, personally speaking, least impressive of the 128bit systems lasted the longest.
Heck I still have 2 of them hooked up.

PS2 already had many years to release great games. It's time to stop. We've been in a new gaming generation for years now.

It's a great achievment that it is still kicking along now considering the original xbox died straight after 360 emerged.
But it's the same story here with the PS2 Big W has dramastically cut the space of the PS2 games and Target has about a quater of the space they once had and EB has been holding a giant clearance sale for about a month now trying to clear out all there PS2 stock. So I'd say the PS2 will cease production sooner rather then later.

The xbox died because that's what Microsoft wanted to happen. It wasn't going to be making a shit load of new money on it's slight upgrades of the system if the original was still out.

The production cost of the console has recently halved so realisticly the price of the console itself should take a pretty decent drop in price.

Sony would have done themselve's a major favor by making the ps3 launch price the same as a blu-ray player. lost some money at the start, but in the long run, they would have gained a lot.

Well the PS3 slim is coming out soon and it will only be $299. It kind of makes me mad that I got the big expensive PS3 2 years ago when I could've waited and gotten a smaller and cheaper one. But atleast I still have backwards compatibility for mine.

The xbox had to die, 90% of the first gen 360 games were basically xbox games in a different box. It wasn't till Jan 07 when the games started to look as though they were actually next generation games.... still thats something the Wii has yet to pull off.
I am quite certain I will get a PS3 eventually but if any game I really want on the PS3 is already on the 360 then there is no real point picking one up. Virtua Fighter 5 would have gotten me to pick up the console. Now it currently stands at "Our version of Eternal Sonata has 2 extra characters".... that you get at the near the end of the game when you already have the 3 uber beat sticks you need to finish the game.
