www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,26020287-26103,00.html AUSTRALIA'S rugby league finals series will be beamed into almost 100 million American homes after a broadcast deal was signed with US TV network, Spike TV. Spike will air three National Rugby League games each week beginning September 11 and the October 4 grand final. "Given the entire population of Australia is only 21 million people, having our play-offs aired in almost 100 million homes on Spike TV is a very exciting opportunity for our game," NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley said. "I have no doubt that Spike viewers will love the physicality, speed, toughness and non-stop action of the NRL." The addition of rugby league to Spike's TV line-up appears to be a perfect fit, with the network's core demographic young adult males. Spike's programming is dominated by testosterone-fuelled shows including mixed martial arts bouts and series titled 1000 Ways to Die, Deadliest Warrior, Surviving Disaster and Real Vice Cops Uncut. Rugby league's profile has received a Hollywood-style boost in recent years with Russell Crowe regularly talking up the sport and his beloved Rabbitohs during US media interviews, including appearances on high-rating TV talkshows hosted by Dave Letterman and Jay Leno. Americans can finally have a chance to see what real football is like.

I don't think that any americans can accept the fact that they're "football" is just rugby for idiots. They're all just gonna ignore it.

He'd have too, I'm fairly certain those codes have been going since the Tudor times. Of course, I'm talking before league tables and the like started, I'll look for a source for that. Ahh, seems I was wrong, Union and League are around 100-200 years old, I must be thinking of Soccer then, which is a surprise as I thought Association Football was an offshoot of Rugby... I thought Soccer was an offshoot of Rugby Football. Then it turns out to be the other way around. Doubt any of the Americans here are going to watch these NRL finals but if they where the game to see next week would be the all qld Derby between the Broncos and the Titans. Only the Titans third year in the comp and they finished third and Brisbane looked to be gone mid season and with 5 rounds to go where 1 lose away from not being able to qualify for the 8 but have now gone on to win 5 in a row and qualify 6th. Should be a cracker off a game. and why where talking league here fake I'll ask are Sam Burgess and his little brothers or Stuart Flanaghan anygood?

I'll have to check if it's on over here in the early hours of the morning and Sky+ it if I can. The Burgess' are doing well. I don't know much about the young uns' to be honest, but Sams a decent player, and Luke is looking really good for Leeds. Played well against St. Helens the other day. Looks big and strong and willing to smash anything in front of him. Even got involved in a bit of a scuffle with some of the St. Helens and Rhinos players. Bad news is it looks like Sinfield has got a fractured cheekbone (Even though he played on) and could be out for the rest of the season. I'm not sure about Flanaghan, who does he play for?

Not 100% sure who Flanaghan plays for I'll look it up in tghe article in a minute and get back but he has signed on to join Gareth Ellis at the wests Tigers and word going around is that Sam and Luke Burgess are going to sign with either Souths, Tigers or Manly depending on who will pay the giant transfer fee and there bringing there younger twin brothers with them. Looking Like Gareth Ellis having left could be bad for your league over there. Ellis has been an absolute gun smashing blokes left right and center and making awesome hit ups so now all the Aussie clubs are looking to poach all your fowards. shit sucks about Sinfield are Leeds in a postion to challange for the competition this year? Might dent there chances with him out and what happened with the challange cup? I watched live at midnight a few Saterdays ago and it was between Warrington and Huddersfield if I remember correctly I thought both those sides sucked.

I watched live at midnight a few Saterdays ago and it was between Warrington and Huddersfield if I remember correctly I thought both those sides sucked. Looks like we might be losing a few good players as Lee Smith (Who I've raved about many times) is leaving to join Rugby Union at the end of the season. But I'm still confident that our Academy is capable of producing good players, and with the odd signing here or there we should still do alright. Yeah, we're currently top of the league with St. Helens 2 points behind, it was pretty much make or break game the other day for the title, but just cause we've won doesn't necessarily mean we'll walk away with the titles. We've got to keep up the performances and not slip up to Salford. Yeah, the challenge cup was a weird one this year. A combination of some of the bigger teams hitting a bad patch of form an the sheer tenacity of the smaller teams put them through. Make no mistake though, they deserved to get to the final on the day, and I suppose it adds more interest to the game knowing that upsets like that can happen.

So it's not just Australia that is losing it's players to rugby then. I think in the past 3 years the NRL has lost 3 Australian and 1 Kiwi test players to French rugby union and in the past 2 we have lost another australian and a kiwi internatinal to Japanese rugby and then to top that off Karmicheal Hunt who is one of the youngest internatinals ever and the youngest player to ever play 100 top grade games and also one of the best players for my side the Broncos has agreed to jump ship to bloody AFL which is a different game altogether and all these guys on top of the guys that leave for ESL every year.
Also heard the other day that Greg Eastwood had finally been approved for his work visa and was off to the ESL next year he is going to Leeds isnt he? Great great signing for them he played for the Broncos for 4 years before originally deciding to head abroad and he was awesome off of the bench playing Lock.
