Okay so I had a copy of MUA2 land in my lap and finished it 6 hours later now playing through it again to get the other ending.... but how does it shape up to the first compared to the first...
Roster
The final count of MUA1 came it at 54-56 with some of the variant costumes being different people. (Some could still be argued) +
MUA2 current stands (factoring in the up coming addon) at 31. This is not an improvement but at least its up from the very sad 24.
Graphics
MUA1 whilst decent was average for the time no real wow factor here. +
MUA2 is certianly nicer but does not show 3 years of improvement. +
I'll call this one a draw
Realtime cutscenes
MUA1 they are SHIT!!!!! Worse than the in game graphics like they were ported over from the PS2 in low res. -
MUA2 basically taken from the in game graphics so there is never a switch in style or quality. +
FMV
MUA1's FMVs still look awesome +
MUA2's FMV look like crud and will look even worse next year -
Storyline
MUA1 had a very complex storyline but it dragged in places and several elements were just tacked on and then some REALLY sucked. My hatred of the Murderworld level is well known. They tried too much and only some of it worked -
MUA2 I haven't read any of the Secret Wars or Civil War stuff bar the Moon Knight hardcovers so so I was an outsider going in and while alot of the plot twists consisted of any given character being a dumbass the story kept me interested. +
Length
MUA1 for all its low points was certainly a big story with plenty to explore with multiple endings and plenty of characters to do it with. +
MUA2 yeah I was done in 6 hours and half the time half the roster wasn't playable....yeah that was fun. -
RPG elements
MUA1 Lots of powers to pick and choose from, lots to upgrade and keep playing through to score more upgrades to fully costumized each and every character. +
MUA2 every character has 4 powers and ummm yeah. -
Bells and Whistles
MUA1: You can kill Jean Grey +
MUA2: You have to waste time playing as Jean Grey -
MUA1: Character team ups and a thought bubble with a number -
MUA2: Character team ups for the most part are a great light show and ultra effective in combat +
MUA1: The fantastic four can be ignored for the most part +
MUA2: The F4 are central to the storyline -
MUA1: Moon Knight! +
MUA2: No Moon Knight...yet
MUA1: roster ranges from stupidly overpowered to useless -
MUA2: roster is pretty balanced though regenerators have an edge +
MUA1: QTE boss fights sucked! -
MUA2: QTE problem removed! +
MUA1 (+) 8 (-) 5
MUA2 (+) 6 (-) 5
So by the end of things it would appear MUA1 would be the better game but both titles are certianly better than average. Mind you this also depends on what addons are in store for MUA2
