Anyone ever been called before? If so, is it as mind numbingly boring as I heard it is?
I got my first letter of notice to attend Glasgow Sheriff Court on the 27th. Any of my friends/family who’ve ever done it only had to attend the local District Court and they said it was hell. A week or two off work on full pay can’t be that bad, can it?
I do kinda feel sorry for the poor bastards on trial though if they have the likes of me deciding their fate…

My Dad had it one time. He seemed to really hate it. I always thought it would be fun. Then again, I love power, and the thought of being able to send someone to jail would amuse me.

Doing the opposite of that would make things really interesting, not that Scotland needs any more psychopaths walking the street. I hope the defendant is a real dick, if I'm gonna waste hours of my life on this shit I at least want some satisfaction at the end of it in knowing that they will suffer for their crime. Of course, I'm hyping myself up for like a murder trial when it'll probably be something uneventful like some dude charged with drunk driving or something equally boring.

Do you get to cross-examine the witness?

I'm a security guard, currently working outside a bus station in the freezing cold...at this time of year I'll gladly take sitting indoors and being bored for 8 hours over that lol.

Do you get to cross-examine the witness? I doubt it, that would be too much excitement probably. I wouldn't mind playing the Tom Cruise/A Few Good Men role for a day though, that could be fun.

Do you have a night stick? Nope. The last place I worked (Borders book shop) we got this weird kind of pepper spray though if you had the nightshift, that was better than nothing, never had the opportunity to use it though.

Yeah, I could see you doing that. I would probably be a little more Bill Murray/Wild Things about it. A fake neck brace will always make them underestimate you.

Ha! I just caught the last 10 minutes or so of Wild Things on TV last week, I totally forgot all about Bill Murray's crooked lawyer role in it. That would be far more entertaining to play I suppose, playing fair would be incredibly boring. And, I'll be sure to bring up the nightstick idea, I would certainly put it to good use.

That could very well happen to me. They gave me a number to phone at 6pm the night before and they'll give you the full instructions then.

So much for that…phoned the number when I got home from work today and was told I’m not required to attend tomorrow. They thanked me for helping (by doing nothing ) and said I wouldn’t be eligible for selection again for at least 5 years. I was kinda looking forward to it as well.

I am also off the hook for 5 years You wouldn't be if I was on that jury. Your luck will run out eventually. See what I did there? Come on, that post was awfully sinister sounding.

A couple months ago I was called. Not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I basically got paid for a full day of work with doing nothing but surfing the web on my phone, reading a book, drinking coffee, and watching TV(Judge Judy was on I think). I was called to a trial for a double murder, armed robbery, but I got off cause I told the judge I was at a critical point of my career at the moment and missing 3 weeks of work would set me back from a promotion.
Once I got back from the lunch break at about 3, I was told that we could all go home because all the trials had plea agreements. I don't have to do that again for another 3 years, but it really wasn't bad at all. I guess it would kind of suck if you don't currently have a full time job because you'd only get compensated like $20 or so, but if you do have one, it's pretty sweet. Your employer has to pay you, it's the law.
