THQ Confirms Smackdown vs Raw 2011 and New Title By Keelan Balderson • May 8, 2010 Thanks to Mark (kantankruz) for sending this in… Press Release: US, May 5, 2010 – THQ president and CEO Brian Farrell confirmed on the company’s financial call this afternoon plans to release a new Smackdown vs. Raw game this fall and a new, unannounced WWE product. Both of these titles, as well as the previously announced WWE Online, will be shown at E3 this June. “For fiscal 2011, we plan to deliver another high-quality WWE Smackdown vs. Raw game this fall, building on this billion dollar game franchise,” stated Farrell. “We also plan to go live with WWE Online in Korea later this year. We will be demonstrating both of these games at E3 as well as unveiling a new WWE brand extension at the show.” There were no other details about either title. This announcement should come as no surprise to wrestling fans. Last December, THQ signed an eight-year agreement with WWE, giving the company exclusive worldwide publishing rights THQ also revealed today WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010 shipped nearly 4 million units in fiscal 2010. Yay. The last one was good, I still play it frequently. I wonder what the other game will be? Probably another Legends of WrestleMania game or something. Unless they're looking to go the Crush Hour route again.

Normally there’s a bunch of new characters I look forward to playing as, but I can’t really think of many this year…Sheamus and the Hart Dynasty, that’s all I can think of.

Yeah, I'm still pretty content with Maryse. I guess it'll be cool for her to have a new outfit...just as long as its not that brown one.

I was trying to think who would be new diva-wise. I guess Tiffany and Alicia Fox could be in this year.
I'm hoping Maryse has a much bigger role in the story mode this time around. If they have any brains, she'll be the main focus of the divas this time.

I'm almost guaranteed to buy it not matter who's in or not. And if it's terrible I will still defend it to the death as a great game ;D
I will definatley buy the game if we get WCW legends like DDP, Goldberg, Billy Kidman, Sting (although I'm not sure if he can be put on a game or not), Lex Luger, Booker T, Eddie Guerrero and David Arquette. Also ECW legends like Sabu, Terry Funk, Chris Candido, Raven and the bWo.
I'm just dreaming at this point but I hope there is a NXT mode which is like the WrestleMania 21/Day of Reckoning storymode where you're a rookie trying to be the next breakout star.

Goldberg in the game would be awesome. ;D
2010 was the first SD v RAW I bought in 2 or 3 years. Maryse's inclusion sealed the deal. The game really had improved in the years since I last played it. I'll definitely be getting this one as well.

If they tried doing something new like "Bah GAWD King, Sting is on RAW!!!" they would have an uphill battle.

I gave up on them once I figured that the decent story/season modes were never going to return. I remember how much I loved SD!2, and later the fourth and fifth. And it was mainly for that reason.

WWE Universe sounds just like a roided up version of the GM Mode from a few years ago. Should be good though.

Someone got try and play the game at SummerSlam Axxess (I think) and here's their review of it so far. Trust me it's a good read:
Now I know I know, there’s not much that I can say after people like the guys at IGN and Gamingring have spoken on the game, but there’s no harm in trying right? Alright, well for starters THQ did something amazingly exciting by inviting members from the SD game community to come and play the game this past Summerslam weekend. The biggest shocker in all of this is that the guys that work there are just as human as we are. They understand some of your concerns (and flat out don’t get others), have some of their own, and hate WWE 24/7 Mode all the same. But hey, I’ll get to that later.
The current game, Smackdown vs. Raw 2011, is a great piece of work let me tell you. From crashing through two tables to powerbombing somebody through a ladder, that’s just the beginning of the fun you’ll have with this game. One of my favorite things about this year’s title is the way in which it flows. In 2010 the gameplay was ehh. Sure it would be fun for a good bit, but to be honest after a while it became formulaic. You strong grapple, move, strong grapple, move again. Same old **** basically. With 11 all of that is pushed right out the window. The grappling is a lot more fluid, and with that comes the reversals looking a lot more slick than in years past.
An issue that I have to bring up with reversals is that while of course you can pull them off all day with the grapples (something I hope is fixed by the end product. That factor will only get boring over time), you can barely reverse any strikes. When playing other players that are just looking to eff you over online they’ll probably pull the strikes garbage, and I’m praying that this will be remedied. Besides this the gameplay is shaping up to be very robust. I can’t tell you how many times I tried doing the same couple of moves over and over again just seeing where I could throw my opponent. It’s one of the most fun mechanics of this year’s game. The way that the moves and environment work breathe fresh air into the series; something that was greatly needed once it hit a road block stepping into this next generation.
Unaffected Swagger is unaffected
Speaking of next gen wrestling games, a big thing that bothered fans was the hell in a cell match. You remember when the WWE debuted the new HIAC? When people were pissing themselves in excitement over that possibly being in the SVR games? When they were doing the same in anger that it wasn’t? Well now all of that can stop. The HIAC is finally bigger and badder just like most of you were waiting for. Fans have been asking for a ‘DOR-like’ cell and I’d say that it’s here way better than it was back then. Of course you can do all of that good stuff like slamming your opponent against the cage, but you’ll have to build up a cell finisher (which you can use once you get to signature status as well) to break out. And trust me that once you’re out the fun has only begun.
Playing as Eve Torres vs. Michelle McCool in a HIAC is oddly satisfying (and I’m not saying that for the boob physics either). As you all already know though, you can’t mix them up with guys. One thing that did impress me was that once you throw someone off they’re pretty much dead to rights. I can’t tell you how frustrating it was in the past to chokeslam a guy off the cell and have him get up as I try to Shooting Star Press my way to dumb daredevil status. The AI also isn’t as, erm, stupid as you all might think it is. Definitely a step up from previous installments the game’s AI actually has a fair bit of aggression. Now I don’t know if it was the build or not, but I was impressed by how things went across with it, with my only real complaint being that sometimes you can really catch it slipping. It definitely won’t be as easy as some may think.
Speaking of the computer’s actions, the Road to Wrestlemania mode never looked better. Bringing back the free roam backstage gameplay that we’ve seen in some of those oldies from the original Smackdown! Series of titles, you have your own special map that shows you certain points of interest backstage (one of which will be your main point of interest of course). The coolest thing about this is that you can do a lot of different things besides your own story. You can help an equipment guy not fall to his death off of a truck by holding his ladder back up, you can watch the show from backstage on a television monitor, you can hop into a FREAKIN TIME MACHINE (to go back to any branches of the storyline that you might have broken off from of course), and you can also hear Stephanie McMahon and Randy Orton argue from right in front of both of them in separate rooms. You could go right up to someone and push them a few times and start a random backstage brawl as well. Keep in mind that all of this is just at the surface of the RTWM mode and we still haven’t even gotten into what I think is going to be the saving grace of SVR11, WWE Universe mode.
WWE Universe mode is what I would like to say what 24/7 and Career modes (both on their own tiers of terrible) should’ve been. WWE Universe takes elements from Career, Story Designer, exhibition, and the defunct GM Mode. You can play matches against whomever and the game will mode itself a story just based on how you play the game. Hey, you can even simulate an entire year’s worth of action and a whole slew of events will have taken place. There will be actual show cards that you can play (including PPVs). Teams can form and break up, people that you thought would never even have a match together can become enemies (or even allies), and you could have complete jobbers move up to the world title rankings. Oh yeah, did I even mention the cutscenes? The oh so glorious cutscenes will have you begging for random things to happen during your matches. A good example was Sheamus walking out on a match with Orton, or just having Orton get attacked during his entrance. Stuff like this adds that hint of realism that fans have been begging for in the SD Games since RAW 2 came out. Well you finally got it, and boy does it look great. Basically anything can happen in Universe mode and it’s Exhibition with the proper story elements needed to give players a kick in the balls. If you ever hated career mode with a passion (who liked it though, amirite? Lolololol) then this may just be your hot rebound right around the corner.
Poor Jericho
An added bonus to the Universe mode madness is being able to create your own federation basically. You can use your paint tool to your heart’s content, and if you suck like me at it then you can just download someone else’s work from the Community Creations page. That’s right, you can share and download paint tool creations, and thank goodness that you can edit anything you DL now so that if you ARE an expert, you can quickly fix it.
On the creation front, the CAW mode seems to have more packed into it than I’ve personally seen picking it up. Of course the points system doesn’t make many of you sound like happy campers, but there are more options that I’ve seen than I have in the games before. You wanna make a CAW that got somehow shot in the head? You can do it. You wanna make a Justin Gabriel CAW with his weird diaper attire complete with actual angel’s wings? Ok. You can do that. And of course once you’re done, you can also build up your guy’s attributes and give him whatever abilities you see fit best. Also with further abilities to create, you can now create corner finishers with the ability to save up to 130 of them. You can do pretty much anything from the corner, and I really do mean that. I know that a huge favorite is the Pepsi Plunge, but my favorite part was the fact that I could create a 720 Canadian Destroyer that went about 10 mph and spanned half of the ring. Absolutely awesome, and you do this with tons of different moves never even thought of as possible. Amazing huh?
When it comes to the online aspect of the game, I must say that I was impressed with how fluid everything looked. Of course everyone was there together so that drew some questions, but even still the servers looked better than ever. As much as it might depend on the set-up I have no doubt that THQ improved the way we play online. Oh yeah, 6 people and all that jazz. Very good stuff there. A 6 man hell in the cell can only open up possibilities for us in future games. Maybe we can see stuff like 6 man tags, elimination chambers, and everything in between either in the final product or in 2012 (and beyond).
With DLC, only one could hope that they stepped their game up from the last two additions of the series. 09 had some uhh, well, less than perfect bonuses and 2010 only had Stone Cold. With Bret Hart (Best Buy exclusive) and other exclusive and non exclusive DLC alike waiting in the wings, we’re pretty set to see that they’re making sure that this is one thing that they get correct.
I know one thing that you’ve all wanted was online leagues. Sorry, but that doesn’t seem to be happening this year and I wouldn’t really expect it anytime in the future. After discussing this feature with Marcus Stephenson (a designer on the game and someone that has worked at EA prior to this), it’s easy to understand why. People don’t keep up with their leagues 9 times out of 10, and for that dedicated base I don’t think the mode will be as fulfilling as they’d hope it would be at first sight. I’m not confirming or denying anything on the terms of Online Leagues in the future because that’s really not my stance, but I wouldn’t dare get my hopes up in that department considering the logical decision not to waste much time and effort on a feature that the smallest of fractions of the community will play.
Aside from that very small issue, I do hope that in the future there can be more online interactivity. I’d love to see something like stat updates for the roster, or another attire here and there, but most importantly I want to see there be an option in WWE Universe to be able to integrate it with the WWE’s actual ongoing product. While this may be difficult, we may not be that far from seeing it in the SD Games. Keep your fingers crossed folks.
Look, I know that it’s not much, but from my experience playing Smackdown vs. Raw 2011, we’ve stumbled upon a great game. If you’ve been looking for the same fun that you had in the Smackdown! arcadey-type games with the realistic touches of the Smackdown vs. Raw series, you’ve just found your match made in heaven. SVR11 combines the best of all these worlds for a package that’ll have you wanting to play it again the second you turn it off. As a matter of fact I wish I could hop into the RTWM time machine and play it again myself.

Got this off the IGN SvR boards.

How could you forget? I believe it was SVR 2008, you picked any superstar and your story started they day after Wrestlemania, you have to plan out every single one of his days, even his days off by having him do autograph signings or invade another show or just chill at home. So it was basically like an RPG game, except you dont get to see any of these things you just pick something for your guy to do and then move onto the next day. And there'd be these horrible storylines which you would only learn about from the messages left in your phone or the ocassional story related cutscene . . . Which were always short and lazily done and horrible. And then of course there was about 3 or 4 randomly selected cutscenes that had nothing to do with the story before and after each match, which involved your wrestler walking backstage and shaking hands with a few superstars (regardless of whether or not you were feuding with said superstar at the time) while J.R and the King bullshitted about whatever was happening in your life . . . Horrible horrible mode.
