And the Oscar for biggest creep goes to -- Roman Polanski.
A British actress came forward yesterday with shocking allegations that the fugitive Academy Award-winning director "sexually abused" her in 1982 -- four years after he fled the United States after pleading guilty to raping a 13-year-old girl.
"I am also a victim of Roman Polanski. He sexually abused me in the worst possible way when I was just 16 years old," said actress Charlotte Lewis, who's perhaps best known for appearing alongside Eddie Murphy in the 1986 film "The Golden Child."
Lewis, now 42, said Polanski "forced himself" upon her in his Paris apartment in 1982 while they worked on the film "Pirates," which bombed at the box office when released four years later.
The legal age of consent in France is 15.
Speaking at a Los Angeles press conference with celebrity attorney Gloria Allred at her side, Lewis did not go into further detail, but said she was coming forward only to counter what she described as Polanski's legal team "portraying his previous offense against a minor as an isolated instance."
"I have traveled to the United States at my expense to make sure that justice is finally done and that Mr. Polanski gets what he deserves," she said. "He took advantage of me and I have lived with the effects of his behavior ever since."
Allred said Lewis never reported the alleged assault to authorities until now. Lewis met with Los Angles County prosecutors and LAPD detectives Thursday to discuss the 28-year-old allegation.
Allred said the purpose was to provide them with ammunition against Polanski when he's finally returned to the United States for sentencing for his 1978 guilty pleas.
Polanski, 76, has been under house arrest in Switzerland, where he was collared last year and has been fighting extradition since. Polanski fled after pleading guilty to drugging and raping a 13-year-old girl at the LA home of Jack Nicholson in 1977.
He has lived openly in France since and continued to make movies, winning an Oscar for Best Director in 2002 for "The Pianist."
In a statement, Polanski's US legal team said it had no information about Lewis' accusations, but continued to accuse LA prosecutors of failing to provide Swiss authorities with complete information regarding Polanski's extradition.
Legal experts said it was unlikely that Lewis' unproven allegation would have much bearing on Polanski's ultimate sentence.
"It isn't really worth very much," said Roger Cossack, a Pepperdine University law professor.
"An allegation of rape 28 years ago that was never reported nor ever investigated, I would think, would have very little impact on sentencing."
