The cliffhanger ending is the last desperate act to try and get another season. That way when they don't the show's creators can bitch about how they never got to do a 'farewell' episode and how the studio really does owe the fans of the show etc etc etc |

There's nothing worse than a rushed lame duck ending to a show just because it got cancelled.
Luckily, the last 2 shows I liked that got cancelled (Arrested Development & Drawn Together) got decent final episodes to wrap things up. That's probably a testament to the writers of those shows though.

As long as they don't get the Farscape treatment, The Peace Keeper Wars was just awful..."quickly we have 90 mins to resolve EVERY plot thread don't worry about established character traits or continuity just end it!"

WTF is flash forward and Sci-Fi ending a show I liked on a cliff hanger ending after only one season really pissed me off, then I figured out their pattern on shows which irritated me further, lol! |

I'm glad I don't watch any of these new shows anyway. They seem to all get cancelled so quickly nowadays.
South Park & Curb Your Enthusiasm are the only TV shows I watch that are still running (I guess RAW as well, if that counts).
