She sounded awful singing the national anthem at Wrestlemania this year. I thought she was brilliant. Her voice is very love-it-or-hate-it, but she's an absolutely fantastic vocalist and performer from whatever angle you look at it. |

She's obviously a very good vocalist, although it's not my type of music. I just don't think she did a good job with the anthem. |

Yeah, a lot of people hated it, actually. Eh.
I have a huge amount of respect for her. She was an illiterate teenage mother just a few years ago, actually. Can't wait to see her in 'The Color Purple' when they finally make it into a movie.

They're remaking The Color Purple with her in it? I actually was curious about her stage performance as Miss Celie, but I never knew they were actually making a film out of it. Should be interesting, but I don't know how she could compare to Whoopi. I heard she did really good with the play though.

Oprah says so, but I don't think they've started filming yet. I think they were waiting until Fantasia had finished recording this album. There's a clip in the OP of her singing 'I'm Here' at the Tony Awards if you haven't seen it yet. =]

Ah, I didn't initially connect that to her involvement with The Color Purple. I thought it was just one of her songs.
