I have no idea why we remember 9/11 by the date.
I have gotten to the point where I am feeling apathetic, worse things have happened since 9/11 but don't get remembered in such a light.

Well I didn't even realise it was 9/11 today until I got home and they were talking about it on TV.

I didn't realize it was 9/11 until I was in school today and I had to write the date on a piece of paper.
