Spain has essentially been in economic ruin since the expulsion of the Jewish merchant class. This is an affliction passed throughout the 'Spanish Empire' which basically consists of South and Central American 2nd and 3rd world countries. Maybe you should check out your government's economic policy towards Mexico and China and see which horse they are backing. Also take into consideration the US has no trouble stomping on countries south of the border when they step out of line but will run away / turn a blind eye when China essentially gives them the middle finger. Even taking China on by proxy didn't work out to well. we don't care about Mexico because they don't have anything we want, and as for China, we put to much stock in them and its killing us, as it has been for over 50 years in the trade deficit  Yes because China has enough money to buy up primary mineral rights of any country dumb enough to sell to them and buy up established infrastructure in western nations desperate for liquid cash. Mexico doesn't have anything you want, pretty much like every other country in the former Spanish empire. Given the current economic climate which language would be slightly more useful to know? Unless you're going to be a people smuggler or a drug mule, I don't think too many people are going to be picking Spanish. |
